Fall season at Emmanuel Hermitage |
Another "stand alone page" has been created under the title Rule of Life.
It can be accessed directly in the menu below the heading of this blog.
The post includes the complete text of the initial personal Rule of Life that served this Diocesan Hermit to step into the path of a contemplative solitary, and live it out for five years until first profession of canonical eremitical vows for the Diocese.
There are some comments on specific aspects of the Rule, and the page also touches on the identity as a Redemptoristine Hermitess.
I just want to thank you for posting your original rule plus comments on updating it. I'm just writing my first self-generated rule (having belonged to a secular order in the past), and finding it confusing and in fact pretty overwhelming!
ReplyDeleteIt helps so much to see not only what you started with, but later thought about it. Especially helpful is seeing that including more time specifically for prayer is the most helpful thing in making the life a success in many ways.
Thanks so much,
Janet
Thanks for your kindness, Janet, I'm glad that you find helpful the little page about the Rule.
DeleteI would encourage you to take your difficulties as already part of the life you are trying/planning to live, and don't give up due to them. Pray about them, that is, entrust everything to the Lord and ask for guidance. And do what you can -with peace. It is a process, and we are guided.
The eremitic life is not easy, and it is not about having it all together -as it sometimes seems to be when you see perfect rules with everything written down and clarity about how you live every minute of your day, every day ...
That might be helpful for some people; but I wonder how far they can go in total surrender (which is the real goal of the eremitic life) when they have such a tight control of their lives through their precise rule.
We don't create the life, we enter it. It is already there. We need to let the noise and the fog to settle down so that we can hear and see what is already there.
I will be praying for you. Please, pray for me.
God bless you!
